On MY Own
P K Routray
To a swirlingly falling leaf
asked a poet with a sigh of grief.
“Who caused you to fall
when on tree live are your brethren all?
Has the tree forsaken you
after taking your service and robbing your hue?
Or is it wind forcing the tree to you not to hold on
forgetting that once you cooled it down and its image only you have drawn?
Is it man, animal or bird who caused you such torture
forgetting that your beauty and shade which gave them once joy and shelter?”
“None. Hey poet friend! I am on my own
detaching from the earthly bondage as I came I am going alone.
Completed I my destined duty and assigned role
merge will i with five elements of the earth freeing my soul.
It will travel to Him, my ultimate love and attachment.
Bye bye, my poet friend! To tree, wind or anybody I do not have any resentment.”
