My Present malice
P K Routray
When I see a baby in mother’s lap,
Crying, laughing kicking with a rap,
My heart burns out of jealousy,
Oh mother! Take me to your lap with mercy.
When I see a child dancing and playing to his heart’s content,
I am jealous of him, I am not sorry for making this frank comment.
When I see a student going to school and preparing for his examination,
I feel jealous and intensly long to again go through the pleasant tension.
When I see a youth, strong and fit, playing a game of soccer,
I stare at him with jealousy, as now for me it is a lost wonder.
When I see a young couple strolling hand in hand with youthful passion,
I feel jealous in state of extreme emotion.
When I see a father carrying candies and cookies for his young ones,
Reaching back home he gets hug and kisses in trillions.
I envy this divine union between parent and child,
Can I get back those days by any means in my imagination wild?
The days gone are sweet when I reminisce, I get aggrieved,
Hey time! you stole them all making me angry and livid.
