My Revered Teacher
P K Routray
At this twilight days
often my past, I gaze
to get nutrients for the day
to keep my worries at bay.
Many incidents as occurred pass by
and many people fleet before mind’s eye.
Some, the mortal memory could hold on.
Many are lost in obscurity and oblivion.
Some dazzle in memory by their contribution
to enable this man in the earthly struggle to pull on.
Among the people in my life who stand out beyond dispute
a revered teacher he is whom I daily gratefully salute
though for my educational career from preliminary to professional
all teachers are my revered and to my indebtedness they stand equal.
I beg pardon form them, all for this special place from my heart
kept reserved for Surendra sir to none others as it, I can possibly part.
When I was at my early teens in the school floating adrift
he came to my life and caught hold of my finger as a Heavenly gift.
He inspired us by his love, intellect, knowledge and wisdom
I swear all these years those teachings for me remained awesome.
Sir! I can ever never be able to payback you in return
to stand in life for the wisdom in me whatever you could churn.
Sir! Please accept my obeisance at your sick bed at ripe age
It is your Prsant saluting you whom you nurtured by your loving personage..
(N.B – Surendra Mohapatra was my school teacher and taught me in 1963 and 64. This is my inner feeling andgratitude as felt now.)
