My Village
part 5
Raja Festival
Only assignments no amusements
fetch man many psyche ailments
kids may chore it as nursery rhymes
as it holds true for all places and times.
Villagers young and old, men and women
celebrate events many with frolic and fun
Some are celebrated en masse and some alone
to compose them within a compass, will dare, none.
Elderly women fast, at times even without water
for the health happiness of family and stay fitter
Thus develop they, their power of endurance
to tolerate in life, any time, any earthly vengeance.
Raja festival with festivities for three days
drive all dwellers of the village to craze
to dine and drink, to swing and sway
Mentally and physically fit, they must stay
for their onrush tasks ahead on the field
where they have to toil hard for a good yield
The mother earth is kept unhurt, nothing is cut
nothing is ground thus requiring preparation a lot.
Male folk battles over games of Kabadi on sand
some playing in zest, some cheering from the stand
Female folk stays busy in their games and gossips
Lasses in new dresses dazzle with their makeups
swing they on swings merrily with their companions
House floors hypnotize with colored dust decoration
Homemade cakes had an alluring appetizing attraction
the special betels with ingredients taste as an exception.
The colored dusts, betel’s ingredients were from nature
without any additives or chemicals to make the man suffer.
Guests in galore visit the village for their pleasure meet
the atmosphere of festivities all-around was so sweet
that I had never got in any famed set up for pleasure
The cakes, the betels the Murujas, the scenes I treasure.

You show a huge contrast
You show a huge contrast between old ladies fasting even without water, to the feasting for all the senses in the festival. It must have been so exciting for children, your descriptions are very vivid
