No Tobacco Day
P K Routray
Observe we today
across the globe as no tobacco day
to reiterate that every day should be a no tobacco day
and to stop tobacco smoking many things we show and say.
But we decorate our drawing rooms with many a fanciful ash tray
and seek to improve upon the flavor and the production in no uncertain way.
Offering cigarettes in fancy cases to guests is felt as a mark of aristocracy,
chain smoking openly and training the teen agers, we feel as our right under democracy.
“Smoking is injurious to health” is the statutory warning on each pack
Knowing the miseries of smoking, the wisdom to refrain from smoking we still lack.
To throw our fancy cigarette box and costly ash trays, let us promise today
Instead to kindle a psycho fear, a dilapidated lung may be the design of our ash tray
Let us promise to boycott the smokers socially and decelerate the tobacco production
our attempts should be, within a decade there should be a ban on tobacco consumption.
