Poem and pride
P K Routray
There is a contest for a theme of a poem or many poems,
of which I am most proud as I would claim.
I have to produce or reproduce a poem, of which I am most proud,
It means certainly poems only from my creation but not from others even if I am allowed.
A person takes pride most on his own poem,
for the others’ poems such pride he cannot claim.
A mother of course may be proud for her child’s creation,
As I have no experience of a mother, hence about it I am not certain.
As to my poem to give me pride most has not seen the light of the day,
My expectations from such poems are detailed in following verses to keep readers ‘suspense at bay.
Can any of my poems feed the starving one?
also can any of my poems supply drinking water to a single thirsty person?
can it give roof to roofless?
Then how can I take pride unless my poem gives such needy the solace.
Look at the Kevin carter’s prized creation,
He won laurels but could not save the starving one and hence committed suicide out of frustration.
You see the degradation of ecology and environment,
The extinction of lives is sure and imminent.
Can my poem surely aid to prevent such degradation?
if not then how can I take pride in my such creation?
The day my poem stops the bleeding from a pained but pure heart,
I shall take pride and claim laurels in being a proud poet
