SONG ABOUT ONE’S WIFE

In 1975 my father searched a girl for his son ,
To marry him off with her so that he makes a home of his own .
The son was trainee engineer in one industry and he was not mentally prepared to marry .
But father was determined and finalized the solution ,
To come home for marriage ,he sent message for the son .
The son was unhappy and even wanted to disobey and disagree,
But he failed to air his displeasure under social compulsions he consented
The son had imagined to marry a girl with all the best features found on the earth
Searching for such a beauty he had faced many a girl’s wrath
Hence ultimately he bowed down to his father’s wishes
With fanfare and drummer y the nuptial did take place according to father’s choice
The groom and the bride tied the nuptial knot
With priests chanting hymns aloud unintelligible but,
To please all in her new family the bride became a daughter –in – law first
Ignoring her role as a wife keeping aside husband’s wishes to the last
The last and the least being towards her husband her duty
House hold chores as daughter-in-law’s duty were her priority.
Law courts and divorce proceedings were least known then
Sympathy of the kiths and kins gradually the bride could again
One sided divorce could never be unceived
The law and lawyers are always on the bride’s side
All who were his own person’s by the bride were won ever
To be the witness for the groom was felt no supporter
He has to look for the lady luck smile on him,
How to get her away from home was his only scheme,
At last an idea and opportunity came to his rescue
In his service he had to join back and accompany she had to .
Staying with her mother and sister she was trained to foist her power
Finding him the easy one whom she could cower.
Directing ,coaxing as if she had become the boss over him
Anger and frustration he developed, the escape from the trap was but dim.
However ,strong are the ways of a husband’s emotion ,
All his anger s would melt before they could be brought to action.
Perhaps god has endowed the female with the power of illusion,
Which turns the male to a meek and mild deer from a oaring lion
At times he would gather courage
To shout at her with displeasure ,anger and rage .
The neighbor s would gather extending support to her
After all she being a lady ,her plight they cannot bear
Children were born and brought up with care
Till they grew up to adults jointly they had to nurture
But the children’s first love is their mother
The behave as his enemies when by chance he defies her.
The couple went through many a physical and mental conflict
But time resolved everything ,no rift it did inflict ,
It seems social and especially family bondages are strong
Which made them to stay in harmony so long
After a fight they would keep their tongues light
He would feel pity later seeing her toil for the family till late night
She is a cook and scavenger but a skillful house hold manager
During sickness she would act a dutiful nurse and loving mother
Time is the best healer which always find solutions
When between them there are so many omissions and commissions
Now almost thirty six years of married life looks but very short
Even now he longs for her first night’s touch but
He can’t tell whether he had love the first time they met
But sharing life together the eternal love has been manifest
He doesn’t recollect his previous life and who had been his partner then,
But would pray god to grant him a boon to get her as wife for seven.
