Tales Through Tears
(Part 3)
P K Routray
My sister’s name was my brainchild from cuckoo’s song
coming from backyard mango grove whose sight still I long.
Unseen, unsung remains the hero who sweats to sweeten a glory
but by hypocrisy, somebody else steals the laurel in the history.
Kuhu was the eldest girl in zamindari clan of our generation.
She not only earned love but commanded love and affection
During her childhood, she bowed again and again
while passing via our family temple like girl insane.
Realize now I at this backdrop of experience
she was a girl made by the creator with a difference.
She turned as a follower of Srima and Aurobinda by our grandfather
she meditated religiously and faithfully quite unusual for her year.
She maintained her religious spell and christened Trilochan
a vibrant witness is Hariharananda Ashram for meditation
lauded by sanyasis, saints, monks and the spiritual masters
to train the rural minds for peace after which man hankers.
The people’s esteem, the couple draws makes us proud
my both brothers were awestruck seeing a huge midnight crowd
braving the weather and odd hours both at Naugan and Gajrajpur
despite short notice and darkness’ cover and rains’ downpour
to bid farewell to Trilochan in the last journey of his mortal stay
in spite of the tragedy, Kuhu marshaled the utopian task on a tragic day
shifting the mortal remains from the hospital to two places located far away
completing the pyre within hours after halts for crowd’s respect on the way.
Honored Kuhu Trilochan’s love for his place of practice and birth
where he was born, grew, nourished nurtured and served till his death.
He was laid to rest on the bed by the side of his forefathers’ pyres
a rare feat a repentant materialistic man at advanced age today desires.
His death rituals were performed with perfection
Kuhu monitored it concealing the pains and pangs of separation
a deed only a master practitioner of Hindu scripture can do
It draws applause from one and all recognizing a lady of equanimity in Kuhu.
(N.B Kuhu my sister, Trilochan's spouse managed and arranged all rituals starting from taking the mortal remains from Hospital via Naugan Trilochan’s place of duty to his native village for firing the mortal remains in the cremation ground where Trilochan’s ancestors were laid within eight hours of death.
subsequently for the liberation of the soul as per Hindu rites. Many painstaking rituals were performed under her leadership)
