Union and separation
P K Routray
Edited by P Gaan
Union is a matter of jubilation
Pains and pangs besiege separation.
When we part,
Heavy becomes our heart,
When we unite
With joy our heart becomes light
They are facts of life,
WE have to accept whether or not we like.
With passage of time and fickleness of mind,
Joy and sorrow, pain and pleasure change their side.
With only union but no separation,
The charm of union is gone
Joy has its own limitation,
Is felt only after a span of separation.
Similarly only separation and no union
Relations get forgotten.
Hence separation and union are complementary
Without one the other is unsavoury.
Wife and husband fight and separate
After a while they repent.
Without water, trees wither,
Excess of it they do not stay either.
Night after a day is welcome,
Only days with light are not wholesome.
Neither only night with darkness can sustain,
Nor only pain without pleasure we can retain.
Strange are the ways of the creator,
All opposites survive alongside merrily glorifying one another.
As per a renowned Oriya poet the song of union and separation below you get,
“The edifice of the union is built on the foundation of the sadness of separation,
Without separation then my friend who will make you have a taste of the honey of union?
If your beloved of heart remains immersed in you in separation,
Why do you call separation unbearable and union eternal one?”
