Virtue and vice as seen by Gandhi
P Gaan
P K Routray
Gandhi the father of Indian nation
about virtue and vice had the following perception.
Virtuous and godlike is the man who
Feels others pain and helps them to
Overcome their sorrow by sharing with them
Never feels a sense of pride for doing the same.
As the lowliest of the lowly who regards himself
Does not speak evil against anyone and shuns power and pelf.
Looks upon everyone only as his equal
Honours women as mothers and into clutch of lust never does fall
Always is truthful keeping a distance from falsehoods
Never feels jealous about another’s worldly goods
Hankering after wealth and fame is not his action
Rather he follows the path of renunciation
God’s holy name is always on his lips
Having conquered greed, distance from deceit, lust and anger he keeps
All places of pilgrimage, you will find within him
He is a mine of virtues, wrong doers he tries to redeem
Sinful and vicious, as per Gandhi, is the person
who indulges in enjoyment paying towards conscience little attention,
Tries to collect and accumulate wealth not by sweat of his brow
Of characterless knowledge, he makes a show
Demonstrates no principle or idealism in business dealings
Practices science without humanitarian feelings
He worships god but shows no sacrifice or desertion
Unprincipled dirty politics is whose option most often
How relevant is Gandhiji’s perception in the modern day context,
We have to do some introspection to-day on his birth day pretext.
