The battle of the sexes
The battle of the sexes is a battle worth fighting for
But is the battle of the sexes a battle worth dying for?
Of all the battles this world has seen
It the only one determined by our genes
We have no choice but to enlist
Are camps are chosen the moment we exist
At first there seems to be no war
As little baby girl and little baby boy
Feed on the breast or on cow ‘n’ gate
And both keep mum and dad irate
So oblivious they our in their own small worlds
Till given uniforms they must adorn
Girls must wear pink and boys must wear blue
But what if they don’t agree with you
As when there older and think on their feet
Some think to conform is total defeat
So our once tiny soldiers choose roles they like
And when thinking of childhood it gives them a fright
As they see to try to please their families
Can not be done its too hard you see
Alex wants to be a fireman, Maria a cook
Steve a mechanic, Sue wants to write books
To change these terms to us seems totally absurd
As mad as it is to raise cows on lemon curd
So we insist on bringing them into line with superficial dress codes
And names designed
To distinguish their different roles in life
Before they can eat with fork and knife
And at that stage all that they know is mama dada
And how to cry when wanting to go
But where busy choosing their identity
By what they see in you and me
Most miss out on experiences which will equip them to be
Young men and women who live out their dreams
So next time you choose them a head dress or coat
Spare a thought for what I just wrote
As the battle of the sexes should not be a lie
So think carefully about the rules of engagement you try to apply
Young children when you’re old enough to read this story
Remember you can be who ever you want to be
Your lives can be varied and active and fun
Not pigeon holed and boring and a military exercise
