Once you would serenade me in the dead of night
With your piercing sirens and lit up the sky with
Your illuminating strobes
I would hear your intense heart beat, now just a lull
Like a lullaby sending me softly back to sleep
You leave remaining architectural walls
The foundations for unborn generations
And windows impose a suggested life to
Unassuming one way streets below
I’m keen to here when you will awake
With high heels echoing through your corridors
And people flowing like ants
Along your green and yellow lines
A stream of well fitted uniforms
And power dressed men
Engage in conversations suited only for
The well informed and outside
The steady flow of traffic
Flowing straight threw your arteries
Oh beautiful City how you have become jaded
Once the jewel in a public gown
Now decay and discarded like public ashtray,
They threatened to close you down
As lack of funds made you
Burst the seams of your fabric
Now the road leads back to the morgue
And no lines flow that way
As the way is clear like yet another setting sun
Once again to Drain the life blood from your veins
And put to rest yet another dream of what could have been
