The moment I knew

The sun bursts from beyond unkempt clouds
Like a precious jewel it shines, each ray
A stairway to the pearly gates.
The air is thick heavy cloud formation
Grey, black, grimacing
Threatening to throw down a torrent.
The trees are barren, spars
Winter has left its footprint
A bud on a branch, shows emerald green,
The first signs of spring
New birth.
Children’s voices echo outside from the estate
As they rehearse adulthood,
A multicultural mix of colours
A rainbow of dialects permeates the walls
The sounds of tea time jazz
Plays on the radio.
My apartment
The centre of the universal
The sun plates my forehead and I see my reflection
Looking intently back at me on the laptop screen
I pause for a moment look around and measure
The trophies of my yester years.
Wow, I’ve made it through another year
One year on and ever wiser is the shout back
From heaven’s throne
This year feels uniquely different
I’ve turned a corner from despair to hope
Life is good, I’m drinking it in
My mood upbeat
Positivity bleeds through my pours
Doesn’t really matter what the weather outside is
Doesn’t matter that I don’t have close friends
In a town where talk is cheap and friends come with
An expirer date. Doesn’t matter that the only knock
On the door is the postman delivering me junk mail
My email box full of strange names and sex stuff
I’ve broken through, through the barriers that limited me
A person in my own right
My head is bursting through a glass ceiling
Hostile clouds don’t affect me
I see heaven’s gate surrounded by angels
And I’m liking this place.
Life is larger, bigger all the superlatives, better brighter
Only I determine whether I stand or fall.
No more pacing up and down rooms
Threatening to punch holes in walls.
No more midnight panics or paranoia
No more fatal mistakes or living disorderedly
My home feels comfortable,
Lived in like the birthday suit I wear
I like this feeling and feel the need to share…
My head is in a good place
Middle aged? No negatives here
No regrets or ideas to surrender
Just giving the creator
Thanks for bringing me through.
Able to know who I am
My purpose on this earth.
Able to see a future
Breaking through skies
Hostile by nature
I see virtue being birthed.
