There he was standing by the female lounge

A man of many years, standing unkempt

Ragged like a slow burning fire, deserted like a starless sky

 

His eyes were unequal, I looked again and

Thought there be but one, as he looked back

At me, studying, testing, suggesting I was 

One who’d betrayed him, in his past life

 

I moved steady towards him, sure of what I would say

His eye monitoring every step made as if holding

Me on my course,

 

I greeted him and with a sober gentleman’s nod he acknowledged me,

Then gripped my arm with the strength of atlas

 

His eyes never moved from mine

Rippled with blood shot veins thou puppy dog like

 

 

I washed my fears in those seeking eyes for years it seems

As I saw his soul ask mercy for what his

Frame told

 

The intenseness of such look questioned me as to

The purity of my very own

 

He smiled a smile of broken teeth and cigarette stained

And I saw a man who like after the storm, was tranquil

Cerebral and contemplative, thou dejected and forlorn

 

He charmed the women folk, administering to his

Every whim, delicate and manly, courteous and patient

To them the smile was broad and playful, cute as he grinned

 

I saw him hold their hearts attentive, his touch gentle

As he caressed them with his lips upon their cheeks

 

His approach graceful, persuasive

No thought of lustful appetite

 

As time went on and he became familiar with the new surroundings

He’d been here before I thought, but different folk

He warmed everybody's heart and became the man

Who every body knew that they could trust

 

We shared a cup of coco and dunked rich tea biscuits right down to

The very last drop
