Sin

 

 

Sin is so subtle

Like that ice cream sundae

You shouldn’t eat

 

Like lying in the blistering sun to long

Like talking to a salesman on the phone

 

It comes to you usually when

You’ve just had a victorious day

You’re high on life then sin

Offers you a spike that will

Take you all the way to heaven

And back again

 

It promises you liberation

Whilst plotting your ruin

Your health, your wealth and your reputation

Your dignity, integrity, leaving you in shame.

 

I was alive once in ignorance

Ignorant to the devastation of sin

I didn’t think that what I was doing

Would create disharmony and pain

 

It seemed innocent a way of life

A rite of passage that we all have to go through

I’m an adult now and everything is legal

Even my viewing of scantily clad girls

 

The whole world is under its sway

Not a soul gets out alive

Every soul is a battle field

Atheist, Muslim, Christian

Children, woman and man

 

So subtle is its face

You could be excused to think it a friend

Whilst deep below the exterior

Is a fiend waiting to get in

 

I find myself falling and falling

Never hitting the ground

Shards of glass stick in me

Like needles I feel there sting

 

 

 

 

Who will rescue me

From this painful body of death

I try and read my bible

But succumb to another test

 

 

If Adam and eve where made perfect

Why the hell did they fall into sin?

They could have made a fruit cocktail

Without the fruit from the tree

Which would cause eternal shame

 

The devil apparently was the first to fall

As he coveted the crown of God

His pride blinded his perfection

And evil sort refuge in his heart

 

So now I see the dichotomy

How to be good and perfect in a wicked world

I love people dearly

But hate the evil in their hearts

 

No pointing fingers

It’s in me too

It’s a curse mankind shares and bares

A mind that want to do the utmost good

Whilst his nature is

Corrupted beyond repair.
