This rock of time

Build your house on rock He said, listen to my Teachings.
You will not go far wrong in life, if you follow what I’m preaching.
His words are plain, there is no doubt, you have firm foundation.
But what can mask it from full view is a smokescreen of temptation.
Some rocks will crumble into sand, hurl you ‘neath flood level.
You realise you’ve spent your time, dancing with the devil.
But bear no grudge, as you move on, at lessons learnt and noted.
Just start again, your hole to dig, you’ll just be more devoted.
With passing time the hand of God rests lightly on your shoulder.
Your face bears lessons in its lines as your spirit it grows bolder.
You’re not alone as you dig deep, the lessons you’re extracting.
Bring challenges to all your parts, most of them exacting.
But when your work is finally done, and its rewards you’re reaping.
Take the time to homage Him, who’s Earth’s in your safekeeping.
Have you given more than you’ve received from this your lovely planet?
It has furnished you with all your needs and provided all your granite.
