Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail

Taylor Swift is fabulous, although I’m not at all sure about the current beau, but that’s none of my beeswax. Anyway, I was mildly surprised (okay I laughed), to read that some people attribute ‘Fail to plan, plan to fail’ to the blessed Taylor, as it’s a lyric in one of her songs. Although I didn’t know the original source, I knew it was a saying from well before Ms Swift could talk, never mind sing, because in the 90’s ‘Scottish Slimmers’ were always shouting it at folk in their weekly slimming classes. Thank Google for Google. It was in fact, Benjamin Franklyn.
“There is nothing new under the sun”, (The Bible).
Now that I’ve got both that, and yesterday’s ‘road to Damascus’ (The Bible) moment off my chest, I am ready to go ‘all in’ on no spend October.
I suspect it will be much like giving up coffee or chocolate – akin to awakening a sleeping bear.
To mitigate running amuck risks, I have pondered and planned the October ‘allowables’, which are as follows:
Allowables
Two cards & gifts, twins’ 3rd birthday
One tub exterior Polyfilla (grey)
One Hallowe’en pumpkin - my will to carve is very strong
One tin Hallowe’en sweets
£1.99 Disney+ subscription
Maximum of two £5 Monday cinema tickets @ Number 30 or similar
Up-front postage for selling items on eBay, Vinted and/or WeBuyBooks
Groceries Ground Rules:
Use up what is already in the fridge/pantry/freezer*
(*unless completely indiscernible)
Grocery shopping once a week only, mostly veggies to try more vegetarian recipes
Goal – £15 or less grocery spend per week. No shop-lifting. (Wee joke)
No nipping into Markies for something fine for dinner. Seriously, no joke.
No processed food. Including, but not restricted to, Rachel’s Divine Rice Pudding (sob), and sausages**
(**unless foraged from freezer and discernible)
