It Was the Day I Went to Tyrebagger

Planned to visit Tyrebagger Standing Stones this week, forecast was for dry weather, and had never been to Tyrebagger before. But on seeing what kicky boy had done to newly painted door, Tuesday became running away day. Deeply-unhappy-boy carved lines into the paint, using something sharp and pointed.
Crow that withers.
Made some tea to go, grabbed the map, headed for the stones. Halfway into the drive, murderous crows that shit flew over the car. Realised the windscreen water jets weren’t working.
Tyrebagger circle stands between Aberdeen airport and the new by-pass road. Last time the comet shooshed across these skies, the circle didn’t exist. Tyrebagger looks quite ‘Outlander-esque’, with beautiful trees in constant prayer. Tall dog-tooth stones flank the recumbent, the other stones descending in height around the circle. The comet tail swished the winds into a blustery Octoberish day. The sunlight dappled silently. As gusted leaves chased off gloomy thoughts.
Bliss.
No longer just the day the door was savaged.
There are three sentinel beech trees within the circle. Deeply-unhappy-people have carved initials and names into them.
There is Viking graffiti, in runes, in Maes Howe on Orkney.
This is nothing new.
The yarrow, harebells and chocolate wren churring in the brambles, thrive, despite comets, standing stones, deeply-unhappy-people.
Still, the smallness of it chokes me.
Got home to find deeply-unhappy-boy had stabbed poor door several times.
It’s not personal. I don’t know who he is. He doesn’t know me. God knows what is going on for him. Nevertheless, have stuck a notice on the door, suggesting he gets a life.
Then pondered on the kindnesses of the day, the garage fixing the washers for free, the man who let me park at his house while I walked up to the stones.
Afterall, it’s all fixable.
Crow that soars.

Are you sure they're deeply
Are you sure they're deeply unhappy? Perhaps just mindless and bored. Destroying things can be satisfying and much easier than creating. Seeing it though can most certainly lead to deeply unhappy feelings. Those short moments of vandalism. I sometimes wonder when looking at them that if the reformed perpetrator returns to the scene of the crime years later - would they have feelings of regret or embarrassment at their idiotic past or perhaps live in some kind of denial that it could have been them that etched - yet it bears their name. A name their parents lovingly chose for them, with love and weighty expectations.

I am so sorry about your door
I am so sorry about your door, and after all your hard work. Like you say, it is because he doesn't know you. You have put a wonderful perspective on it all. I am very glad you had such a lovely day out!
