White Days

This week started the way it meant to go on, low grey-white cloud, occasionally rousing the energy to drizzle, but otherwise, just hanging about irritating people. It never really got light, apart from the full moon lighting up the back court way too late to go out and moon bathe. No chance of seeing shooting stars, not from the Geminids anyway. The Ursids are around the 23rd, dawn apparently. No chance of seeing them either then.
Meanwhile, am happily staying home, no more appointments, no events to attend, online or otherwise, nothing I ‘have’ to do, candles on, the odd tidy up. It’s bliss. Except, I don’t understand why there isn’t more impact from my tidying up, apart from the fact that Georgian houses have no cupboard space, excluding the pantry, so tidying up becomes more an exercise in moving things for here to there. Then back again. Hopefully without breaking them in between. Things must change. 2025 is the year of de-cluttering.
Now I’ve written it down, I won’t do it. Curses.
Secretly love the white days. The stillness, the world whirling outside the window. Inside, Christmas fairy lights seem brighter, the world in a spin of parcels and stamps, and thank God I don’t have to work anymore.
Have decided to stop the journals over the Christmas period, from today. Maybe until after Jan 6th, something biblically significant. I want to give my brain a rest from writing and instead, submerge under Jolabokaflod, do some painting and a jigsaw. Relax.
In the meantime, on Midwinter Eve (20th), will listen again to Susan Cooper’s ‘The Dark is Rising’. An episode a day with a nice cup of tea. Although, this broadcast has possibly the most persistent jingle ever, ‘The Dark is Rising’ tune. Worth the risk for the story.
