Possessions (This country isn't mine, This country isn't yours)

This country isn’t mine
This country isn’t yours
You built these shackled gates
Where there should’ve been open doors
The earth wasn’t our fathers’
The earth isn’t ours
No one owns this dirt,
Like no one owns the flowers
We must all earn our keep
To have the freedom of being free
We must all keep the peace,
We must live and let be
I am not a foreigner on your land
Because ‘tis truth, the land isn’t yours
You do not own the sun or the sand
Just by being born upon these shores
We were all meant to be brethren
Not dictated by heritage or race
I did not realize I wasn’t welcome
Just because of the color of my face
The earth has suffered much decay,
No one knows what it endures
And until we can return what we took away
This earth isn’t mine, nor is it yours
