Emptiness
Not a sound breaks the silence
Not a song fills the air
A thread to life clinging
On the edge of despair
Why hope rekindled
And stoked up the fire
To smoulder in ashes
Of a funeral pyre
Who is the stranger?
That's stolen my face
Whose is this body?
Bereft of all grace
Why chase the thoughts
That will flicker and die
Like the echoes of memory
On the last of a sigh.
Why welcome the morning
Avert from its gaze
No place for the fallen
No respite from the days.
Hours wrapped in parcels
Lie unopened and spent
Light yields to darkness
Without no relent..
Not a sound breaks the silence
Not a song fills the air
There is no one to listen
With no presence there.
