The Bulldog Bites

The first punk band that I ever saw was called 'The Vandals'. I was fifteen years old and they played my local youth club in Basildon. A very young and very abrasive Alison Moyet fronted them then. I thought that it was a great gig. I jumped up and down until I got shin splints. Punk eh? It made monkeys of us all. Alison ended up singing in the West End hit 'Chicago' and I ended up working for Enfield Council. The only anarchy I cause now is in my kitchen.
I reckon that there were only four seminal bands from those days. In no particular order they were: The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam and the Stranglers. I'm still a major fan of all their work. The Stranglers always seemed more exotic to me, darker, sexier. More Art School than the local comprehensive, they knew how to wear leather.
Hugh Cornwall. One of the bands head honchos performs a very special show for us at the Millfield next week. The show will feature two full sets. A full acoustic performance and a Q&A with Jim Drury featuring questions based on the best selling book 'The Stranglers Song By Song'.
Now then. How do I work this gas cooker?
