Aldon Gutter and Stonehouse Pools 22/1/14

Disgorging clouds retreat:
lull, brief leisure to explore
out into the myriad hidden nooks
of the beckoning, great outdoor:
A small, secluded, valley,
with string of pools along its floor
(rising, linked by dams and weirs
– recent rainfall’s rushing gush),
which edge the border of an old estate;
and in the highest one, the hillside lush
(– sunshine-green), the deep blue sky,
and trees – reversed, reflected, pool aglow;
and here the stream pours down the grassy field
and plunges over mini-cliff to pond below
as fallen branches hinder, clog the flow
along its normal route;
then on into a dingle
(though here it’s called a ‘gutter’)
a tighter, wooded cleft
with soggy, squelchy mud, leaf litter,
pheasant trails and squawks,
and upright minute bundled spears
pale green, some bearing
emerging small white tears,
milk droplets at their tips appearing.

Another one of your
Another one of your wonderfully eloquent nature poems, Rhiannon.
Although the place you write of is many miles from here, you took me there with your words, and how beautiful it sounds, if a touch 'soggy' and windblown , with all this dreadful weather, doubtlessly.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
what a wonderful word...Disgorging, only just discovered what it means.
You have such a natural way of taking the reader along with you on your walk, I loved the description of the secluded valley...took my breath away.
Isn't Mother Nature inspiring?
Very much enjoyed.
Jenny.

Hello Rhiannon,
Hello Rhiannon,
Yes, another great nature poem from your pen. I too enjoyed the walk as your words led me through the valley to the dingle. I could imagine the steam or vapour coming off the damp plants and the smell of them as the sun filters through the trees. Aaah lovely.

Hi Rhiainnon
Another very instructive piece of writing - as well as painting an interesting picture.
