Bins

A house, like ourselves, must ingest and excrete,
rejected things placed in receptacles discrete:
moulded of plastic by bathroom sink
(blending with colour-schemes – blue, white or pink),
a large gleaming metal container in kitchen
with footpad – no contact by fingers to pitch in
whatever is rubbish, discarded to waste,
but nowadays care must be taken, no haste,
to sort into various external boxes
(and food waste protected from foraging foxes),
though some have but two outdoor bins side by side,
by council provided, but you must decide,
what goes into which – all recyclable stuff
goes into the green one, but rules are quite tough
to follow, apply, and the rest must be put
into the black one – its lid properly shut,
and the local authority dump can accept
fridges and TVs that cannot be kept –
new ways by inventive research have been found
to rescue resources from filling the ground.

Well done
You have picked a nightmare of a subject to write about Rhiannon. Well done for even attempting to pen such a poem. It makes a very good read. I like the line "but rules are quite tough to follow" as in the papers some councils are proposing fines of up to £2,500 for the wrong material in the wrong bin.
