Brown February

Brown etched trees scratch the grey,
scattered brown sere seeds still hang
suspended here and there;
balls of mistletoe,
coloured greenish-yellow by tiny flowers
– white berries gone.
Brown shorn hedges spiky,
muddy verges of dark, wet roads,
overwhelm the tired green grass remnants:
All’s waiting, we’re waiting
a coming revitalization.

The repetition really works
The repetition really works here (and the word itself - brown - ends on a down note, which is very appropriate!)

Have never seen mistletoe
Have never seen mistletoe growing, do you have very old woods? "Tired green grass remnants" is well noticed, no energy to bounce back after being walked or driven on, like wound that can't heal. Then the Spring comes with a whole new skin :0)

So true Rhiannon, everything
So true Rhiannon, everything is so brown, dull and tired, all's waiting, we're waiting, won't be long now before it all bursts. Lots of mistletoe growing in Reading where I live, in high places it grows quite low and on youngish trees too.

The study of this piece is so
The study of this piece is so important Rhiannon, I think we should all take time out to enjoy the nature of your words.
Jenny.
