Derby and Joan’s last Holiday (IP)

Now Derby and Joan
were proud of their home,
but lately there’d been some confusion:
from her fading memory,
and wobbly mobility,
and the increase of his agitation;
so a plan had been spun
by their daughter and son
and the visiting nurse, in collusion.
They found a good place
which for two had a space
where together they could take vacation,
– protraction provided,
if they so decided:
a welcome and restful suggestion.
So Derby and Joan
to this holiday home
went with cases, to take up the booking;
and, Oh, it was good,
with hot well-made food
like Joan in days past had been cooking;
and the helpers were kind,
didn’t moan, didn’t mind
help them find their lost specs, lead the looking.
When two weeks were past,
they were glad to be asked
if they’d like to accept an extension;
and soon it was home
to Derby and Joan,
end of days spent with love and attention.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Yes, this is a very nice way of introducing old people to a new life - start it out as a holiday. My sister had another stroke recently, and is now,probably permanently, in a nursing home. All her life she made her kids promise that they would care for her when she got old, and they have done a sterling job, but she has now reached the stage where she needs 24 hour care. But from the few notes that I get from and about her on occasion, she seems to be settling in pretty well.
