Judas Iscariot
pretended to care a lot
for the poor, but he kept the stash
of donated cash:
when he wanted some money he took it,
it went into his pocket.
Disparaged, criticized
generosity genuine,
and extravagent love, – despised
his Master? betrayed;
– a hypocritical cynic?
– don’t mimic.
“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? … He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.” John 12:5,6
