Living Tapestry

From lowland lake to moorland bleak,
in wood and hedge, high mountain peak,
on roadside verge, and rocky shore,
through cracking concrete factory floor
(disused), and shielded city nook:
for those with eyes to see, and look,
the scenery is crawling, buzzing,
unnoticed residents are scuttling,
they slide, or slither, flitting, darting
(with momentary sight or sound),
air-borne, or under-, over-ground
in canopy, through bush and grass,
they lurk, we miss them as they pass,
or high above they soar and fly,
make use of freedom in the sky.
Observe the lush plant-life variety,
the flowers, fruit and greenery
as food for fauna, rich in quality,
and all with startling, detailed beauty
in bursting blaze, to cheer, amaze.
Good memories we store, explore
with thoughtful stewardship, wise caring,
the cherished privileges sharing,
encouraging appreciation
of scenic monthly variation:
the seasons’ change, with rolling range
in temperature, and rainfall measure,
– the cause of annual migration
to find the niche equipped for each
around our sphere throughout the year,
or hibernation, adaptation;
as with the daylight fluctuation
and cyclic rhythm of tidal shoreline,
where dry gives way to flood of saline:
we learn of complex chemistry;
and glimpse the detailed tapestry –
of life survival, through upheaval
and human greed and rampage:
exhilarating heritage.

HI Rhiannon
I too liked this very much - and marvelled at the amount and variety of species you managed to include.
Your rhyming patterns are a sort of signature of your work.
