A lovely walk ’til adrift in drizzle

A beautiful walk along the cliff path,
sunlight on the ocean – glowing bands,
islands dark in silhouette,
heather, gorse, grass, fresh sea air.
Returning to the car on an inland route,
instructions unclear,
drizzle blows in,
steadily increasing,
can’t see or figure out how far
how near to here,
is the place where we parked the car …
did we miss those landmarks?
Get out the GPS
– will pinpoint where we are
(grid reference);
on the screen, a wiggly-line map
of our trail, he sees,
with just a little gap
the circle to complete,
so chose a path to walk,
and watched the circle start to close
(not quite ‘following your nose’) –
soon in the dry, car heater blows
warming us through,
and drying soaking clothes.

I loved this, Rhiannon. An adventure, possibly better to look back on, but reading this, you really get the feeling and atmosphere of the occasion, and at the start, the beauty of the scene.

Nice poem. I can relate to the getting lost bit in Cornwall not long ago. Tintagel to Port Isaac along the coast path was the plan! Elsie

A great scenic walk you took the reader on in this poem Rhiannon, but then you are always good at taking us the reader along with you. Thank you for the lovely read. Jenny.
