Rub the fat
into the flour,
and after that
stir in the fruit and sugar;
mix,
add milk and egg –
to fix
a dough
that’s firm enough
for rolling thin
upon a floured board, and then
cut them out,
and cook upon
the heated bakestone –
when that side's done,
turn;
– before they burn
take them off the griddle
on to the cooling rack,
with sugar sprinkle,
and soon partake
delicious little tasty cake.
*Welsh cakes [ pronounced pick-eh ahr uh mine: the meaning seems to be little Welsh cakes on the stone ie bakestone ie griddle]

Like Luigi, I think you're well clever coming up with off griddle :0) I looked up the recipe - they do seem quite uncomplicated and with no tricky ingredients - just the sort of recipe to know incase invaded by teenagers
