There’s always one child … (IP)

The helpers prepared many weeks for the camps –
equipment, first aid, stoves and food, loos and lamps,
routines to work out – games, discussions, long tramps,
aware of the homesick, the show-offs, the scamps.
The campers arrived, some were nervous, some shrill,
examined the tents, loos (they’ll never be brill!).
A week – days and nights to survive, and to fill;
and one saw a sight, and he thought, ‘Yes, I will …’
Not one to be fearful, or panic and shriek,
nor one to rush off adults’ wisdom to seek.
He’d tended these creatures at home, ‘So, why not?
I’m sure I can catch it, let’s give it a shot …’
He showed off his toughness, but used little nous,
for this was no pet, but a wild little mouse.
He lifted it gently, but the mouse quickly bared
its teeth and it bit him, because it was scared.
First night, and a hospital trip, helpers sighed.
From a countryside campsite it meant a long ride.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
This was a fun read, and with words of wisdom to the wise. Were you the camp leaders?
I can remember when we had a mouse or two in the house, and I was so freaked out, that I took my two kids and pushed them in a double pushchair all day, so I wouldn't have to go back home to face the mouse until my husbandd reappered at night.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
so many things can go wrong on camping trips, as in your fun piece of writing, I know I've had enough of my own in the past.
Nature in all it's glory can be both cruel and kind. I thought this was a great example for the IP. A good read with wise advice too...who could ask for more?
Thank you for sharing.
Jenny.
