[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series, but placed in Christmas series]

Then violence increased and their Maker few sought
A great flood destroyed all, but Noah had been taught
– he warned, but most laughed. Later Abraham heard
the promise – must teach his descendants God’s Word
and God would bring blessing to all of the nations.
God’s prophets informed, and increased expectations
that one day God’s Saviour would come, loving King
with Light for all people, from sin to redeem.

The people were ready, but some hoped for One
who’d conquer the Romans, the rulers who’d come
with taxes and soldiers; a few were aware
their need was for One who their nature would share
but able to bring them to personal peace
with God, and from guilt and transgressions’ release,
to draw their hearts back and teach justice and love:
some waited this Saviour to come from above.

To be honest I am very uncomfortable with this kind of thing Rhiannon and feel I should say it, just once. For instance, is “Jesus died for our sins” something to be so glad for?

I do consider myself Christian and to me the essentials are the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer and Sermon on the Mount and, 1 Corinthians 13, also some others.

I do believe in the Apostles Creed, word for word, with my heart mind and soul. But please don't abandon logic, and please don't make the mistake of believing that you know the answer to every thing, although I have to admit you have a phenomenal knowledge of the Bible.

That Jesus died for our sins is certainly something to be very glad for, Tom. It is sad that he needed to die, but as we have all done wrong, we should be so glad that he was willing to take the penalty of all who believe and accept and trust him. Surely we rejoice that we can be forgiven. If you love the Ten Commandments, you must be aware that you haven't always loved God with all your heart, never lied, never coveted … or always loved perfectly as described in 1 Corinthians 13. But Jesus lived so perfectly, and his righteousness can be ours, aswell as his death punishment being so we can now be forgiven all faults and failures.

I certainly don't abandon logic - do you think I do in something? Our logic may get confused. And I don't claim to know the answer to all things, but we can rejoice in what is clear in scripture.
