Baby Blue Eyes

Came into the world at 7-10oz
a little plump
fingers and toes waggling

all of him there
mom and dad gushed.

Captured their hearts
the first moments

learned to crawl
swallow strange food
and one day calling out
Ma-ma and Da-de

words startling
balance upstanding on his own
even holding a spoon
upside down --

Now he stares from his office
to 30 stories below
pinstriped suit creased after
wheelin’ and dealin’
on today’s harried Exchange.

Was it that long ago he muses
when a small child said
in such a little voice --
Ma-ma
Da-de
I love you.
