Baby Chicks
Momma’s feeding her
chicks
one beak at a time
feathers shoulder to shoulder
on a slender
limb
tail feathers shuddering
for next in turn.
Momma regurgitates spoils
from the feeder
lances deep into one
chick’s
yawn of beak
then darts away hoping
to satisfy the
next puff of feathers.
