Birds Eye View

Birds and other feathers attract
my attention and I notice
Grackles and Black Birds have teamed up
once again to raid the feeder
leaving scratches of grain
for other little ones,
not so brave to come up against larger feathers
happy to absorb leftovers

not daring to complain as the benefactors
of a once rising pile of feed,
now in full flight across the lawn.

Looking at the sea makes me feel small
and unruly waters cannot quench my spirit, yet .
a hummingbird makes me feel young
as she dips her beak once again into a little throat.
