Coming Down the Sidewalk

Flicked from an index finger and thumb
the penny flips through the air
almost in slow motion
then landing on shiny asphalt
followed by guffaws from a group
careless with their money
a small measure of wasteful attitude
the copper face not welcome in any one’s
pocket at the moment
and trickles in a roll before resting
beside two others
unwanted and of no use for
anyone’s attention.
Shuffling across the sidewalk
is a saviour seeking cigarette butts
and finding any coin will do.
