FROM DAYS OF YORE

I walked the seashore
to seek my fortune
where fighting ships did abound--
might was right and mouths
of cannon
eager for daylight
where good folks should
be feeling safe
but the sound of pirates
filled the air
with outcries of joy.
Time and travel
from remnants in many battles
debris of every sort
stretched across the shore.
Not interested in gold nor
Doubloons of old but mystery
and adventure
from days of yore--
pieces of sword
or flotsam from ships destroyed
perhaps even a captain’s log
telling tales
beyond these shores
yet embedded
in sands of yesteryear.

Swashbuckling joy
Thank you for this, it got my inner parrot chirping, 'pieces of Eight!'
