without saying goodbye
to rabbit’s family,
then simply doing it
a fox ending his life badly.
The day began with the sun
wrestling for attention
on the cusp of dawn
and a filled donut shop this
Sunday
afternoon not aware
of life diminishing in a copse
not so far away.
People and their plans
continued on wooden walks
covered in snow
and little town flavour
kept pace with its heritage
over a milkshake,
an after-church special treat.
Yet, back of town limits
behind a short hill in
the twilight of
carnivorous culture, a
family of foxes
enjoying snack-of-rabbit.
