The Generation Gap

During younger years
Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger
were heroes to any
copycat with a cap-gun
and “Hi Ho Silver!” commands,
proper conversation for kids
hurrying to untie friends
even girls joining in cowboy games
hiding in woods from
desperadoes, helping to protect
towns as we boldly fought
for goodness, riding high on
imagination.
Now villains are mostly in TV
disguises, ad men using
hard-sell commercials, programs
accepting violence,
children from olden days
replaced with mascara, grown
up girls receiving lots of
attention, no need for hiding in
woods, just a little shade
unseen by prying eyes, kisses
as pretty blossoms among
the greening.
