King Street Downtown

Towers of glass are
monuments to
society with national names
for varied products
ten or twelve floors
below garbage piled higher
than a triple ice cream
cone laying on the
sidewalk. Tim Horton cups
leapfrogging over Subway
wraps and cigarette butts that
no one seems to notice.
Stores closed shoppers at
home watching TV
and snacking except for late
night soldiers with nothing in their
pockets but lint---shoe
leather worn thin
one bleak voice asking a
leftover passersby
--Got change for a coffee mister?
