Now and Again

Of light and
shadow and anything
in between
reverence and irreverence
clash in the night
the scorpion’s about
prepared to do his chores
while other species
inhabit lost space.
We are life in the light
dancing in the aisles
our petulant steps
absorbed in the Ringmaster’s Circle
and yet the shadows are
where we run to
when the cavern closes in
and the bats no longer linger.
