Once in a slower moment of life
I crave to return to old
stomping grounds. Gentle place it
was -- now filled with an echo
of empty voices
copy-cat to the ache in my chest
calling – calls to me.
Patricia’s gleaming birthday gift
roller wheeling down the driveway
sister Sue and Whiskers
sauntering along
her carriage full of pussycat
sky tossing under layers
of clouds
autumn leaves chasing winter.
Rain threatening on a picnic day.
Mom and dad passed this way
to a new place of rest –
above those clouds and a-smilin’
back at me.

This reminded me of those childhood thoughts that
cross our mind in fleeting moments of contemplation.
Beautifully written Richard.
