From the car they leap
arms and legs racing
laden with
gifts from the Mall
can’t wait to show off
back-to-school purchases
Grandpa hurrying to
attend the celebrations.
He too was a child
of such delight except his
days began with lighter
finances---bared feet
scampering to gain warmth
generations removed
laughter before the glamour
the price in earlier days.
