At Pictou, Nova Scotia

Reflecting lights
pinpoint
nightfall’s watery charm
as the Causeway straddles
an ancient route
discovered by daring explorers, their
wind-harried ships crunching
on Nova Scotian soil…
Scott Paper’s lumbering trucks,
windfall-loaded with
forest memories, felled wilderness
tuned in to new adventures, into frilly
napkins and modern usages.
Nearby, on reed-like legs
viewing their unfolding world, as
feathered forefathers once stood in awe –
Cormorants
hulking on weathered pylons
aside Northumberland Strait.

Note: Pictou was where the first settlers
to Nova Scotia (New Scotland) arrived on
the ship, Hector, in the mid 1700's. Scott's
Paper is now owned by a new conglomerate.
