Thin slices of
colour peer
a-c-r-o-s-s the horizon
as embers within
a camp-fire of clouds
towering over drifts of snow.
Rumbling now dark
and ominous, rolls forward
tumbling in a blanket of foam.
Our pace meanders across the
lake, silhouettes etched on
homewards trail---
snowshoes shuffle to shore
as clouds whirl in anticipation.
Slender boughs shiver amid tugs
of sweeping wind; an early evening
brings snowflakes
as tender kisses.
