The Taxi
By Richard L. Provencher
- 1017 reads
man inhabits a city of scents
hastens to his duty
a passenger from afar
arrived in the midst
of Toronto Airport bedlam
a strike just begun
headache much worse
conversation
about the weather
kids and
the price of tomatoes
taxes too much to bear
for the driver.
Cars an exhausting
parade of colour
chasing along Highway #2
like locusts
leaping from lane to lane
as children play in
boarded-up back yards
once it was his
domain for such things.
Busy now
raising a family
youngest is autistic
hard to figure what’s to come.
Loves his family
pays bills best he can
two boys
one girl
small house near Beaches
district
fare happy to get home
to his own family
anxious---
hugs and kisses await.
