The Wood-Chopper 2

lays down his axe, arms

heavy --- rubs muscle,

the effort satisfying his

need for exercise,

firewood to help children

and good wife being

warm at the fire

from coolness tonight.

Returns to his duties --

in the next hour  

breath of wind keeping

company --- continues

task of chopping wood.

After an evening’s  

fullness in food

songs of joy for plenty.

Time to sleep

arrives and heads bow

in thanksgiving.
