The salty teeth of mangroves
The way the tide schlucks mud like an old man
Slurping chocolate pudding through a straw.

Monkey likes how sandbars smile at gulls
The way a sunken trawler leaves a frothy wake.
Wombs are ferries whose umbilical cords
End in anchors.

Monkey likes how an antelope died on the mudflats;
Its innards got eaten by ants.
Now monkey wears it like a cape
With horns and a jawbone that does not understand.
