Portrush

This is a poem I have written about family holidays:
PORTRUSH
We get in the car,
Excitement and anticipation building,
Always as good as the reality,
Heading to Portrush on holiday.
Fatigued by the journey,
Falling asleep in the back.
We arrive at the hotel,
And the vacation finally begins.
Amusements and rides at Barry's,
Eating ice cream on the beach,
The feel of shifting sand on my feet,
Being off school for weeks.
Magical memories made that last a lifetime.
Stones splashing in the water,
The sun forever shining,
Blue skies the order of the day.
Given recent summers, hard to believe.
And then the realisation dawns,
It must have always been this way...
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
