The Wedding Day

The clock has counted down,
Hands ticking to an inevitable destiny.
My facade is strangely calm.
Fussy preparations are past now,
Two years of anxiety bringing me to this day.
The guests arrive,
The great and the good in all their finery and splendour,
The lovey ladies in fierce competition to shine.
I talk purposefully to the assembled hoards,
Taking it all in,
A unique moment, never to be replayed.
I wipe the perspiration from my brow,
My eyes fixated on my surroundings,
The lateness of the hour etched firmly in my mind.
And then I see her.
Resplendent with beauty and happiness
A personification of pride.
Clutching her daddy tightly,
Silently savouring the occasion.
She greets her audience,
All there to see only her.
My bride.
This is her time.
At last our eyes meet,
A complete union of heart and soul,
Showing me the meaning of true love.
And the rain lashes furiously outside.
A storm that seems so perfect!
